Description

(b. 1986, Thailand), Lives and works between Bangkok and Brooklyn

Korakrit Arunanondchai – whose practice includes film-making, painting, installation and performance – engages with a plurality of subjects such as history, technology, spirituality, authenticity, self-representation, and the Anthropocene. Blending reality and function, history and personal experience in his complex, mixed media installations, Arunanondchai creates a universe of tangible and intangible beliefs. Drawing inspiration from his autobiography, fictional characters and narratives, the social settings of contemporary Thailand, geopolitics and globalisation are intertwined to form what the artist calls “a memory palace”. Arunanondchai’s practice escapes definition and rigid categorisation, allowing for space of multiplicity and diversity of medium and thought.

Arunanondchai has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows internationally, including Venice Biennale (2019), Whitney Biennial (2019), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Serpentine Galleries (London), and the Museum of Modern Art (NYC). His work is included in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Centre Pompidou, Paris, France; Tate Modern, London, UK; and the Rubell Museum, Miami, Fl, among others.
